• Vacation in Amsterdam

  • Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, which is a country of Dutch heritage.  A few people that have called Amsterdam home include Anne Frank, Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt van Rijin, and Baruch Spinoza.

Here are the best places to visit in Amsterdam:

    Anne Frank House

This is probably the most popular must-see attraction in all of Amsterdam.  Everyone has heard about Anne Frank at one point, so it would be a shame to be in the city and miss out on this piece of history.  This house is where Anne Frank hid out with her family for two years before being discovered and shipped off to a concentration camp.  She wrote her journal here and once it was found and published, it became a bestseller.

    Van Gogh Museum

A collection of Vincent van Gogh’s work is on display inside this museum and people can see everything from his paintings and etchings to prints and his correspondence.  Van Gogh’s story is quite unique, because he only sold one of his paintings during his lifetime.  However, now his work sells for millions of dollars and is very much sought after.

    Leidseplein

This area is where people will find nightclubs, movie theaters, casinos, and concert venues, so that they can be entertained for hours at a time.  Leidseplein is quite crowded, so people should only go there if they do not mind crowds.

    Heineken Experience

The Heineken Experience takes place inside the old Heineken Brewery.  Visitors can go on a virtual reality ride as they learn about the Heineken family and the entire tour concludes with a taste of the fermented beer.

    Rembrandt House

This is the house where Rembrandt used to live and work, so it is filled with his etchings as well as the items that he collected.  Visitors will want to take advantage of the audio guide while touring the home and it is helpful to watch an etching demonstration as well to learn how Rembrandt completed his.  Everyone should also keep in mind that while this home is dedicated to the work of Rembrandt, none of his paintings are on display here.

History, art, and entertainment can all be found in the Dutch city of Amsterdam, which makes it a fabulous place to visit at least once.  There is quite a bit to do in the city, so people will want to plan their itinerary carefully before they arrive.  If not, they may find themselves not seeing as much as they would have liked to.
